I don’t know about you, but for my family Christmas is all about the food. While I love to eat healthy delicious food, you are always allowed to treat yourself. (Do I sound like a broken record yet?)
Your health encompasses much more than a healthy diet. The most important thing is a healthy mind. At a time like Christmas it is important to enjoy with family and take the restrictions off – once again – it’s all about moderation.
If you are following me on social media you probably saw that I flew down to Melbourne for christmas this year. For the first time in 5 years I got to spend Christmas with my dad and sister.
So on Monday the 21st December I braced myself for the busy airport and made the trip down the Melbourne. As always I came to Melbourne with just about no luggage (because I always end up shopping down here). Lucky this time I came with an empty bag, as my beautiful family members gifted me a multitude of recipes books and baking equipment (I swear I am the easiest person to buy for).
I flew down to Melbourne a couple of days before Christmas as my favourite part is the cooking. So for 3 days prior I helped my step mum, cook for all 15 of us! We got as much of the baking and such prepared, and then on Christmas eve we ventured off to Footscray Markets to pick up all the fresh produce. My step Brother and sister joined up that day, and boy did we cook up a storm – we will be eating left overs for days.
I spent the day chopping onions for my brothers Italian minestrone and ragout. Then I started to prep the grain salad I was put in charge of. Yes I had been brainstorming ideas for weeks, ever since I found out that’s what they wanted me to make! And boy did my brainstorming pay off. I ended up creating the most delicious Pumpkin Quinoa salad. Fillled with herbs to give a fresh summery taste, and then lastly topped off with a tahini Yoghurt dressing – yes this is my favourite dressing, I often make a big batch at the start of the week and top all of my salads with it!

When it came to christmas day, we spent the morning setting up my parents house. I swear it belongs in a fete magazine. My step mum sure knows how to style. I have to say all the food was delicious, but I think the dogs definitely got most of the attentions this year. But who could blame them, just look at how adorable they are!
Now I am back in Brisbane and planning for the new year! Stay tuned for my new years resolutions. I have so much in store for you on the blog.
