Homemade Baked Beans

Want a hearty breakfast without all the sh*t. Well I have you covered. This easy recipe will make the best baked beans you’ve ever tasted, and make plenty for your freezer so you can quickly heat it up for a mid week breaky.

Homemade Baked Beans


1 tbsp olive oil

1 small red onion, chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1tbsp tomato paste

1tsp cinnamon, ground

¼ tsp chilli powder

2x 400g tinned chopped tomatoes

1tsp dried oregano

2 tsp maple syrup

salt and pepper

2x400g cannellini Beans

handful of parsley

Prep TIME: 15mins
Cooking TIME: 1hr

In a heavy-based saucepan (that can go in the oven)* heat the oil on medium heat. Add in red onion, garlic and cook for 2mins or until it begins to soften. Stir through cinnamon, chilli powder and tomato paste. Cook for further 1 min until fragrant. Add in chopped tomatoes, oregano, maple syrup and salt and pepper. Bring to the boil and then reduce heat and simmer for 10mins. Stir through drained cannellini beans and then place in the oven for 1hr.

Remove from oven and sprinkle with chopped parsley. Served with crusty toast and eggs.

If you don’t have this, you can use a baking dish for the oven component – but who wants extra dishes?
